Born it Portugal and in living in Australia, Estela Ferreira is a humanitarian concerned for all peoples. Estela is passionate about freedom and human rights and it has always been her dream to become involved directly with improving the quality of life for people in developing countries.

In 2006, recognising Estela’s hard work, determination and generosity, His Excellency Dr Jose Ramos-Horta, The President of The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste appointed Estela as the Goodwill Ambassador of Timor-Leste. Estela hopes that her contribution will positively impact on the lives of people in the newest of nations. Estela’s see her role as an extension of her commitment towards helping those in one of the newest nations – Timor-Leste.

Estela actively promotes the people and culture of Timor-Leste and also contributes towards the economic development of the country. Estela is undertaking numerous projects in and for Timor-Leste, including: assisting churches in Baucau and Dili with the running of their schools and scouts; sponsoring a Timor-Leste student to pursue her studies in Australia; establishing a private collection of paintings and photography of Timor-Leste.

Estela works with communities, governments, corporations, international non-government organizations and individuals to develop, promote and implement initiatives to improve the lives of the people of Timor-Leste.
